The rarest cocoa variety Criollo from the Tucaní region is one of Venezuela’s most unique terroirs. The region is located on the southern shore of Lake Maracaibo, between the ridges of the Venezuelan Andes and the warm air currents of the Caribbean Sea. This natural setting creates a stable warm and humid climate, ideal for growing delicate, aromatic, and especially sensitive Criollo cocoa beans.

Genetics

Cocoa from Tucaní belongs to the rare Venezuelan Criollo lines, known for exceptional softness, low bitterness, and a vivid aromatic profile. Criollo is an ancient genetic group, considered one of the most valuable in the world thanks to its creamy texture, clean taste, and subtle floral notes. The Tucaní terroir enhances Criollo’s natural qualities, making the flavor especially refined and balanced.

Aroma and taste

The cocoa mass has a delicate creamy-nutty aroma, in which subtle notes of lavender and sage unfold. The taste is soft, clean, refined, with the creamy texture characteristic of Criollo and a long, harmonious finish.

Traditions and origin

Criollo cocoa from Tucaní is grown on small family plots where traditional processing methods are preserved. The beans undergo natural fermentation in wooden boxes and are sun-dried, which helps preserve their natural sweetness and aromatic purity. Farmers in the region work by hand, selecting only the ripest pods, making each batch especially valuable and authentic.

  2. Add 150–200 ml of hot water (80–90°C, not boiling).

  3. Stir until smooth.

  4. For a lighter, airier texture, use a whisk or milk frother.

  5. Optionally add a pinch of spices—cinnamon, vanilla, or cayenne pepper.
